After years of working my way through the jungle of music production software in my youth, I finally discovered Ableton Live, and from the first day it felt like I was using an excavator for what I used to use a shovel for. What emerges sits somewhere between lo-fi, house and hip hop, is mostly instrumental, and lives from sampling, resampling, field recording, material played in via MIDI instruments, and a lifelong obsession with fiddling with MIDI notes to finally reach enlightenment by discovering the quintessential drum loop. During the Freihype project, I created a sample pack from the voices of the participants, which you can download below. Alongside the music, videos have always emerged over the years as a visual accompaniment and documentary element. Over time, a larger catalogue has come together — check out a selection below.
