With the Road to Hollywood Box, 6–10 players create a short film at home in just a few hours, without any prior knowledge. Each person takes on a role on the film set such as set design, location scouting or costume design etc., while also playing an acting role in the movie. Filming is done with a smartphone and the accompanying app, which afterwards handles the editing, so that the premiere can be celebrated only moments later. Road to Hollywood is the at-home adaptation of Filmevent.com’s tried-and-tested event concept, where participants shoot short movies in just one afternoon. Starting as a freelance-filmmaker at these events, I was approached to be part of developing a new idea. In the following two years from first idea to store shelf, I deep dived into the development of this product, carefully crafting the game mechanics, prototyping and manufacturing the game box, directing its look and feel and marketing and later pitching it to publishers. Negotiations with publishers are currently ongoing. This collaboration also gave rise to other fruitful outcomes: everything we discovered during the development of Road to Hollywood, we in turn translated into new formats for Filmevent.com where participants take over the filming themselves instead of it being done by professional filmmakers.
